Welcome Coach Brett Vavra!
Coach Vavra joins Etowah Football for the 2025 season with the goal of establishing a first-class football program while developing a culture of excellence.
Coach Vavra has more than 20 years of coaching experience and most recently spent eight seasons at Sprayberry High School. He led them to their winningest season in program history including a Region Championship and the GHSA State Quarterfinals. He was voted the 2024 6AAAAA Coach of the Year.
Coach Vavra previously spent five years at Etowah High School as the Defensive Coordinator and Strength & Conditioning Coach. During his tenure, the Eagles went to the State Playoffs for four consecutive years (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and had their best finish in program history with the GHSA State Semifinals.
Coach Vavra had an impressive collegiate career, spending one season at the Naval Academy Preparatory School before transferring to Tennessee Tech University where he played four seasons as a middle linebacker. In his senior year, he was voted All-Ohio Valley Conference 2nd Team Defense, All-Academic Team, 2-time OVC Defensive Player of the Week and was named 2005 Tennessee Tech “Man of the Year”.
A 1999 graduate of Sprayberry High School, Coch Vavra was a 4-year starter at Tight End, Fullback and Middle Linebacker. Coach Vavra resides in Woodstock with his wife Mary and children Serena, Lilly and Greyson. He will teach in the Heath/PE Department at Etowah.
